Over the holidays, my six-year-old received the puzzle Digits in a Box. It is a lot of fun to try and puzzle out but sometimes I just want to put it away in the box. I’ve created this page with one answer for when I want to clean up.
Digits in a Box Answer
Step 1: Line Up the Numbers
Line up the numbers in the order 5 8 6 0 2 3 7 4 1 9
Step 2: Flip over the Two and Three
Flip over the 2, so it looks like you have two 5s and flip over the 3.
Step 3: Stack the First Five Digits
Stack up 5 8 6 0 2 in that order
Continue stacking all of the first five digits
Step 4: Insert the Three
Stand the 3 up and insert it into the stack from the side
Step 5: Insert the Seven
Turn the 7 upside-down and insert it into the stack from the top
Step 6: Add the Four to the Side
Add the 4 to the side so it nests with the end of the 7.
Step 7: Add the One to the Side
Add the 1 to the side, next to the 4.
Step 8: Add the Nine to the Side
Add the 9 next to the edge of the 3 that sticks out.
Thank you so much for your solution to Digits in a Box. I bought this many years ago and recently found it in a drawer in my classroom. Although he did not find the solution, this kept my most difficult students engaged for the last month of school. I too was unable to put it back together. Thanks for your help. Now it’s all ready to challenge my students in September.
Hi Debbie,
I’m happy to hear my posted solution was helpful to you in your classroom. Thank you for all you do as a teacher.
Thank you, Sal!
