iPhone Choose Your Click

Last updated on October 5, 2016 by Sal Ferrarello

This is the most unintuitive screen I’ve ever come across on my iPhone. It turns out, this is a chance to customize the Haptic Feedback on the iPhone “home” button.

iOS 10 Screen Choose Your Click

The Buttonless Home Button

Introduced with the iPhone 7/7+ is the new buttonless home button. In other words, the home “button” is no longer a button but rather a circular dent where the home button was on previous phones. When you push down on this dent, the phone compresses a little bit and gives out a sickly “click”. If you haven’t guessed, I’m not a fan of the buttonless home button.

Customize the Sickly Click

The ambiguous 1, 2, and 3 on the “Choose Your Click” screen, indicate the different levels of click that occur when you “click” the new Buttonless Home Button.

  • 1: Light Feedback
  • 2: Medium Feedback
  • 3: Maximum Feedback

In my experience, I’ve found the Maximum Feedback (3) to be the best of the options.

I came here because I clicked each baloon dialog (1) (2) (3) followed by Home. Then I clicked them one after another. Then I double clicked them. Then I double clicked home. Nothing happened. What am I looking for? What am I supposed to observe? I’m lost. This does nothing.

I believe the 1, 2, or 3 feel (slightly) different when “clicking” the home button. I found the differences very subtle. I do find turning off the phone entirely and then trying to click the home button is a strange experience, since there is no artificial click it becomes obvious you’re just pushing on a solid part of the phone.
